The Employment Pathways Analysis Section undertakes research and analysis to: identify how job seekers can better connect with job opportunities; understand what employers are looking for when recruiting; and advise job seekers on how they can better meet the needs of employers and improve their employment prospects. Together with information on job opportunities both now and into the future, the analysis supports policy development and program delivery; and provides assistance for those transitioning into employment, including young people, the unemployed, disadvantaged groups, retrenched workers and those who are re-entering the jobs market.
The team works closely with employers, providers and practitioners, including jobactive organisations, non-profit and peak bodies, education, training and career education professionals and a range of other stakeholders.
The section also co-manages the Survey of Employers’ Recruitment Experiences (SERE), contacting employers across Australia to undertake research into labour market conditions. The survey runs throughout the year across Australia surveying approximately 10,000 employers annually. The core survey examines employers’ recruitment activities, outcomes, expectations, and needs. On an adhoc basis, the section seeks employer views on cohorts of interest, including youth, the mature aged, refugees and ex-offenders; and examines different topics of interest, such as employability skills and how applicants can stand out at interview.
